Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Box Braids.

Installation time varies by size and technique; small traditional braids can take six to eight hours, while knotless or larger braids often finish faster. We provide time estimates during consultations.

Box braids themselves won’t necessarily damage hair, but improper tension, neglect, or keeping them too long can cause breakage. We use gentle techniques and advise proper maintenance to protect your natural hair and edges.

Wash, deep-condition, and thoroughly detangle your hair 24–48 hours before your appointment. Avoid heavy oils or fresh color. Arrive with dry hair, any reference photos, and let us know scalp or sensitivity concerns beforehand.

Knotless braids start with your natural hair to create a seamless, lighter base and reduce tension on the scalp. Traditional box braids add extensions at the root for a chunkier look. Both offer longevity; choice depends on comfort and desired style.

Generally keep box braids for six to eight weeks to prevent matting and tension-related damage. Regular maintenance helps extend wear, but we recommend removal and a gentle deep conditioning routine to restore hair health afterward.

Sleep with a silk scarf or bonnet, moisturize scalp with lightweight sprays, and avoid heavy oils that attract buildup. Wash gently every two to three weeks and schedule touch-ups for new growth to keep braids neat and long-lasting.
